As today marked the beginning of a new sprint, we started the day making new stories and assignments. One of these were to finish and testing out prototypes before January 18, our Critical Design Review. There was a lot of research to be done to find the best measurements for the prototype parts. The Business team taught rookies how to use Photoshop and Illustrator; once they got the hang of it, we began to design the T-shirts digitally.

To start off the new week, we decided to organize and take inventory of our parts in the hopes of saving time later on in the season. In addition, it would aid in creating a P.O. for needed items.

We continued to work on the kit frame; by the end of the day, it had been wired and tested until it was capable of movement. The wheel on the Three Prong Design was programmed and a chain was attached to connect it to the window motor. Meanwhile, the other team members mounted a motor onto the Roller Claw.

The original plan for the day was to draft strategies, so we met to arrive at a team consensus for our game plan. As our team debated on what design to follow through on, we came to the realization that our discussion was not making progress. Evenly divided on whether we should shoot for high goal or low goal, we separated into two groups: one for the high goal and one for the low goal. The designs that each group would come up with would be presented at CDR (Critical Design Review).

As the day progressed, selected designs were solidified and important decisions were made; by the end of the day, each team had written stories and tasks and had begun to assign roles to each group member. While some people researched previous robot designs online, others created prototypes out of things like pneumatic cylinders.

McDonalds of Hawaii held a fundraiser event for Hawaii FIRST Robotics teams: For each Egg McMuffin sold during Robotics Week, $1 will go towards FRC teams who will split the final total raised throughout the McDonald’s in the state. To participate in this event we were required to do an in-store demonstration at a local McDonalds, showcasing our team and the FIRST program to the public. During our spring break, we went to our local Kipapa McDonalds and brought our FRC robot for people to drive. Children had fun using the robot to get through obstacles such as pushing a ping pong ball from a chair into a cup.  We also talked to people to tell them what we do in this program. The McDonalds munchies were also yummy!
