Annual FLL Tournament
Each year we host the district FLL (FIRST LEGO League) tournament for central Oahu schools. FLL is a junior FIRST program that is offered to those students in elementary and middle school. Building and programming the robot is done by the students, with the help of community mentors. They are given their game information in late August and have two to three months to prototype, build and practice for the regional and state competitions held from November to March which offer the opportunity to move on to the World Festival held in April. The robot is fully autonomous, made with NXT Mindstorms and LEGO that need to be able to complete the tasks revolving around the annual theme to score points on the game board. Teams also improve their communication skills by creatively presenting their research done on a problem that is based on the theme during competition. Throughout the day, members lead FLL Teams to presentation rooms, supply lunch, water and snacks to the teams and judges, and set up the tables used during the competition. One to two of our members MC the competition.
